Brand New 2026 Mitsubishi EV
Exciting news, Mitsubishi fans! Mitsubishi is launching a new electric SUV model for 2026 that is literally electrifying the EV subcompact SUV family! This news lands as a collaboration between Mitsubishi and Nissan, and means that Mitsubishi will provide plug-in technology used in the Outlander PHEV (our very popular Mitsubishi PlugIn-Hybrid) to partner with Nissan and launch this new vehicle.
Now there is a little bit of a wait before it arrives, but it’s not too soon to get pumped up for what’s coming and will mean you can avoid gas pumps for 2026 and beyond! The as yet unnamed SUV will be based on the 2026 Nissan Leaf, and sales are slated to begin in the summer of 2026.
We don’t have a lot of details yet, but here’s what news-on-the-street among industry experts is: The new Mitsubishi EV will compare in size to the Nissan Kicks and will be able to hit over 300 miles of range. That’s like hopping into the car and driving from Bob Mills Mitsubishi of Jacksonville to Boone, NC on one charge!
This Mitsubishi EV will have front-wheel drive - which means better handling and versatility on the road - and fall in the compact crossover vehicle class. The new 2026 EV should also ship with a NACS charging port. The NACS charging port will be compatible with Tesla’s Supercharger network - with 144 charging stations in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia alone - and over 17,000 nationwide.
We mentioned the name of this new Mitsubishi EV Mitsubishi hasn’t been released yet, but if we had to guess at Bob Mills Mitsubishi, based on registered trademarks Mitsubishi has made over the years, it could be the Lancer or Colt. And of course we’ll keep you informed of updates on this exciting news in the coming months.
This announcement of the anticipated 2026 EV SUV is part of Mitsubishi Motors North America’s business plan named “Momentum 2030”. The plan promises the launch of a “new or significantly revised vehicle every year from 2026 to 2030”, and Bob Mills Mitsubishi of Jacksonville is very glad to be a part of it!
"Mitsubishi Motors is on an upward trajectory, especially in the United States," said Mark Chaffin, president and CEO, MMNA. "When we launched the Momentum 2030 long-term business plan to our dealer partners last May, there was a buzz in the room about an exciting future, but there was a desire for more concrete timing and plans. Today’s announcement is the first of many to come that reinforce our commitment to the U.S. market, to providing the best vehicles we can for our customers, and ensuring a long and healthy future for our company in the U.S. and globally."
Chaffin continued, "Momentum 2030 is more than a business plan, it is a rallying cry for our company, for our employees, for our dealer partners, and for our loyal and new customers. Our plan is clear, our path is mapped out. The addition of this new battery-electric vehicle to our lineup will deliver a blend of internal combustion engines, plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles, so that our customers have the choice of technology that best suits their needs."
